Present

A Candle Lit Procession from St Mary’s Church
Christmas Carol Service at Caldicot Castle

Caldicot Castle provides the captivating setting for a traditional candle-lit Christmas carol service organised by the Churches of Caldicot, Portskewett & Rogiet.

All over the country, churches are gathering to celebrate this special time of year; Caldicot Pastor Jim Davies from the Pentecostal church has helped to captivate the imagination of churchgoers in this area by joining together with Anglicans, Methodists, Roman Catholics and Baptists towards a common aim.

These 5 churches have been meeting together for the past 3 years and it is the first time in their history that it will be leading a candlelit procession, starting at 4.45pm from St. Mary’s, the Parish church on church Road through the Country park, over the drawbridge and into Caldicot Castle.

The evening service will rejoice the birth of the Jesus Christ, the Saviour and feature music from the award-winning Severn Tunnel Band, carol singing, and readings by candlelight.

The program will conclude with a short address given by the Bishop of Monmouth.

The performance is free, however donations are invited and will be shared between the Mayors Charity Appeal and The Severn Tunnel Band.

It is with great joy that I bring to you a report of our recently concluded mission held here in the historic Monmouthshire town of Caldicot , a town with an unbroken history of nearly 1000 years of Christian life worship .and witness. Together the churches of the town had invited the folk of the area to come and meet God with them in Caldicot. A full and ambitious programme had been arranged, leaflets distributed in the Market square to almost every home in the area. Neighbouring Churches contacted and invited.

The weather was great as Mike Petty Tent  coordinator for the Elim  evangelistic department drove the containing vehicle into the park, in moments the tent was being released and manoeuvred by the willing volunteers that had gathered to help  and in just two hours we had a ‘Canvas Cathedral’ stretching skywards to the glory of God.

Our first celebration service was a Songs of Praise evening, our first introduction to Alison Stewart who shared her God story with us, what a might impact that made upon the gathered number , others too had shared their story.

The next day saw the first of the dawn prayer meetings led by a variety of church leaders in various styles but all who gathered each discovered a momentum that propelled them into a great day, well worth the effort of getting up or staying on if you had been blessed by a night in the cathedral!!!. Pastor Jim convened the ‘School of the Word’ each morning, majoring on the theme’ God in the Garden, what an encouraging time that was for those that took time out in a very busy week to attend.

Each afternoon was kept free to facilitate free conversation with those that called at the tent for conversation. So many Divine appointments in one week as He drew many to His table to be refreshed by Himself.

Tuesday evening celebration had the theme ‘Recovery is possible’ What an evening. Extravagant worship led by a youth band that came to support Alison who preached that night, we were also visited by a team from Hope House, a teen challenge recovery centre, more singing and testimonies that reached deep into our hearts.

Wednesday evening a night eagerly anticipated by many, the evening hosted by a team led by Maree the Methodist minister introduced to us Mike Endicott from the ‘Well Centre’, the theme of the evening healing wholeness, many lingered long ‘soaking’ in the atmosphere of healing after Mike had shared some very inspirational teaching raising through the roof the faith levels of those that had gathered.

Thursday a celebration with a difference. Pam Richards the Church in Wales Youth officer had arranged a programme of music drama prose etc. Much written and presented by the young people themselves. Never will those present forget the climax of the evening as we sang the Name of the Lord is, and the glory of God came into the tent, wonderful moments.

Friday was the much anticipated visit by the team from elim@bristol.

At 2 p.m. the trucks!!! Arrived it was all go until 6-30 setting up all the equipment that had been brought to convey the simple truth that God blesses people in order to bless people all in the Name of Jesus.

What a night, worship electric even an extra generator called in to take the strain, the crowd that gathered were entertained, blessed, encouraged and challenged, Lisa shared her God story and Pastor Peter ‘explained things differently’ as he expanded the “Dot of Choice”.

The day was long, the effect extensive (we have had reports of listeners as far as a mile away as the sound of praise filled the town.

Saturday the last great day of the feast Early morning  prayer, followed by healing School  how we longed for those living waters to flow. a powerful talk by Annie Richardson on wholeness, led us into a ministry time as the Spirit of God came upon us making us whole. Thank you Jesus.

Our final Celebration service, just 1 hour of pure joy and thanks for a wonderful week in His presence. Then the operation began, 20 minutes, tent vacated and flat, 90 minutes in the lorry leaving Caldicot for another outreach in the Name of Jesus.

For those that like statistics: aggregate attendance at the celebrations were 500 people of which 300 were different people, the largest gathering were for the visit of e@b. The budget was £3500

We were so blessed and encouraged.

Thank you for your support.
